Northern Shield Resources Inc. is a Canadian-based company known as a leader in generating high-quality exploration targets and views greenfield exploration as an opportunity; — an opportunity to find significant near-surface deposits at relatively low cost by thinking outside the box. That approach led us to the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland and the Root & Cellar Property — discovered by a local prospector and advanced by Northern Shield into what we believe is a large, well-preserved epithermal gold-silver-tellurium and porphyry copper system.
For years, conventional wisdom held that porphyry copper deposits could not survive in the ancient rocks of the Avalon Terrane. The skepticism was based on a preservation argument, not a formational one. The rocks were the right type, but did 575 million years of geological history destroy what was originally there? The evidence at Root & Cellar says it hasn’t.
Using the knowledge gained from Root & Cellar, we expanded our search and now control two parallel mineralized trends covering 450 km² with multiple porphyry copper and epithermal gold targets.

We think “outside-the-box” to locate such opportunities and then implement a model driven exploration approach to reduce the risk associated with early-stage projects for ourselves, our shareholders, and the environment. This approach led us to the Root & Cellar Property in Newfoundland. Discovered by a local prospector and advanced by Northern Shield. The property hosts a large and well-preserved epithermal gold-silver-tellurium and porphyry copper system.

Ian was born in Zimbabwe where his father worked as an economic geologist for the Rhodesian Geological Survey. For half the year, the family lived in a 16-foot caravan and tent in the southern African bush, in whatever area his father was charged with mapping for that field season. Ian attended boarding school in the UK from age 11 to 18 and despite being around rocks and maps from a very early age his career ambition during that time had always been focussed on aviation, particularly, flying for the Royal Air Force. Ian went on to study geology at the University of New Brunswick and eventually a 25-year career in the mineral exploration industry, including founding Northern Shield in 1999.
From 1995 to 2000, Ian was an independent consultant responsible for exploration projects for Nuna-Minerals A/S, in Nuuk, Greenland and, in 2000, for Crew Development in Norway. In Greenland, he worked in some of the most remote and rugged terrain using a model driven approach to efficiently explore large tracts of land despite short explorations seasons.
Ian implemented a similar model-driven approach at Northern Shield to generate nickel projects that subsequently resulted in partnerships and investments with major mining companies including Impala, South 32, Teck and Hudbay. It was under his guidance that Northern Shield became known around the world as a leader in grass roots exploration for Nickel, Copper and the Platinum Group Elements. It was his understanding of geological models that led to Northern Shield acquiring a unique epithermal gold project here in the Burin Peninsula they call Root & Cellar.
It was Ian’s penchant for the outdoors and adventure that help steer him toward a career in exploration. He is an avid explorer and mountaineer having learnt to rock climb in north Wales and Western Scotland and later spent two months ski-mountaineering in Svalbard. His mountaineering apex was to participate in an over winter climbing expedition in the Wrangell Mountains of Alaska.
Ian is a “boots-on-the-ground” CEO and now resides in St. John’s Newfoundland.
Samuel Legg, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Legg holds a Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Accountant (CA). His experience includes 12 years in Ottawa’s high-tech industry, the majority in telecommunications and manufacturing. He served in progressively senior positions at Newbridge Networks of Kanata, Ontario from 1993 to 2000.
He has conducted business in Asia, Europe, South America, Canada and the USA. He has extensive experience in small and medium-sized start-up environments, having been Director of Finance or CFO of several companies.
Russ Richards, Chairman
Mr. Richards currently serves as the CEO of Bluestone Programs, an insurance product provider for the private credit sector. Mr. Richards also serves as the CEO of Global Migraine Aid. Mr. Richards’ previous experience includes private equity, investment banking, family-office portfolio company management, start-up and operational turnaround experience across the mineral exploration, business services, financial services, insurance, manufacturing, and technology sectors in North America, Europe & Africa. Mr. Richards earned an A.B. in Public Policy Studies from Duke University.
Peter Dimmell, Director
Mr. Dimmell is a professional geoscientist (P.Geo.) and prospector who has been involved in mineral exploration for 57 years, mainly in Canada, but also in Mexico and overseas, working first with Noranda, then Lacana/Corona and since 1992, as a mineral exploration consultant, and director, to a host of junior exploration Companies. Peter is a Fellow of Geoscientists Canada (FGC); a past president (2004-06) and Life Member of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), a past Chairman, past executive director and past director of Mining Industry Newfoundland and Labrador, a member and past councilor of the Geological Association of Canada (GAC), a Life Member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), and an associate member of the Association of Applied Geochemists (AAG) and the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG). He is also a director of VVC Exploration Corp., Pirate Gold Corp. and Visionary Copper and Gold Corp.
Scott Jobin-Bevans, Director
Currently, Managing Director and Principal Geoscientist for Caracle Creek Chile SpA and President, Principal Geoscientist, and a Director of Caracle Creek International Consulting Inc. (Canada), both international private geological and geophysical consulting companies. Currently a Director of Vision Lithium Inc., International Prospect Ventures Ltd. (also VP Exploration), Stroud Resources Ltd. (also Interim CEO), Thunder Gold Corp., Sienna Resources Inc., EV Minerals Corporation, and Makenita Resources Inc.
Governance
Northern Shield resources Inc advocates high standards for its employees, and its board of directors assumes responsibility for the ethical and accountable management of the Company for the protection of its shareholders’ interests. The board currently consists of four directors, two of whom are considered independent under applicable Canadian securities laws.
The corporate governance guidelines of the Company are consistent with regulatory requirements and best practices for the protection of shareholder interests. The board has adopted specific charters and corporate governance policies and the board periodically reviews these charters and policies to ensure they are kept current with regulatory requirements and to ensure the guidelines are clear and that standards of conduct are maintained.
