Our Projects

Northern Shield is building a district scale opportunity in the Avalon Terrane of eastern Newfoundland. The region is vastly underexplored with some portions being untouched with little to no background information.  Norther Shield’s model driven approach to exploration is well suited to such situations.

Our primary focus in the Avalon are two genetically connected types of mineral deposits: epithermal gold-silver mineralization deposited near the ancient surface by hot fluids rising from depth, and a deeper porphyry copper-gold-molybdenum system associated with an intrusive body at depth that provided the heat, metals, and fluids that powered the entire mineral system

Root & Cellar

Root & Cellar is the Company’s flagship property and hosts an intact porphyry copper-epithermal gold mineral system — from preserved hot spring deposits at the ancient surface down to the copper-gold engine at depth. Compared to the Fortune trend, Root & Cellar is relatively undeformed and upright. However, what sets Root & Cellar apart is its association with tellurium. Tellurium is one on the rarest critical metals and is also often associated with very large mineralized systems. Multiple lines of evidence also suggest that the Root & Cellar mineral system is alkalic to high-K calc-alkaline in character — a significant interpretation with implications for exploration strategy and deposit analogues.

The Fortune Trend

The Fortune Trend is a 40 km mineralized corridor located approximately 25 km north of Root & Cellar, on the Burin Peninsula hosting multiple expressions of porphyry copper and epithermal gold mineralization along its length. Four distinct prospects have been identified along the Fortune Trend, each representing a different expression of the same type of mineral system that drives Root & Cellar — but at different levels of exposure and preservation. From west to east, they are; Point Rosie, Stewart, Forty Creek, and Feeder Brook. Together they demonstrate that the porphyry copper-gold mineralizing event on the Burin Peninsula was not a single isolated occurrence but a belt-scale phenomenon extending across tens of kilometres.

CSM

CSM project consists of three claim groups totalling 136 km² on the Avalon Peninsula, near Cape St Mary’s, southeastern Newfoundland. The project targets two distinct styles of critical metal mineralization — porphyry copper-gold and magmatic nickel-copper-cobalt sulphides — in an underexplored portion of the Late Proterozoic Avalon Terrane.
